well i usually have a fake tree but when i have had a real tree i have not put it on a metal stand i put it in a bucket with soil and water and water it everyday. I also do not keep the lights plugged in all the time only when i am up and able to monitor the tree. I also have kept a house size fire extinguisher not far from the tree. I am 38 and my father taught me these safety tips when i was a child. I have passed them onto my children and they will pass them to there children. Your welcome to share my tips.
