Paint without the fumes

When I was pregnant, I took advantage of my precious condition to opt out of painting the walls in our house. Granted, I was tired, off-kilter and deserved a break, but mostly I was afraid of those noxious paint fumes.
Fast forward five years and times – and paints – have changed.
There are many good quality low-VOC and no-VOC paints on the market. When we repainted my sons’ room last week, I followed my own advice and chose a no-VOC paint for the walls. I like to shop at my friendly neighborhood eco paint store, but these paints are becoming more readily available at hardware stores too.
Lower VOC means less exposure to the fumes that cause headaches, nausea and respiratory problems.
A final UL painting tip: be sure to check if the tint is also VOC-free, as many tints are not.
All that said, I still think a pregnant mama deserves to skip out of painting and treat herself to a spa day.
