The Logistics of Santa

Ever since my husband and I had a gas fireplace insert installed in our living room, I have wondered how I would explain Santa’s arrival. You see, the fireplace insert is completely enclosed, and we view the fire through glass and a metal screen. There is no opening out of which a jolly bearded man might emerge. And hey, what about people who have no chimney? And what about people who have no fireplace at all? Santa visits them, too. But how does he do it?
The man pictured above holding my son, a guest at a recent Safety at Home gathering, was kind enough to let me in on his secret. It’s quite simple actually. Are you ready?
Magic.
That’s the answer! Santa is magic, which we already assumed since he has a sleigh that can fly around the entire world in one night. Santa also knows what the children are hoping to find under the tree. That’s magic, too. So, should you find yourself staying in a hotel room on Christmas or trying to explain how the cabin you’ve rented – which features a woodburning stove – will accommodate Santa Claus, the answer is that he has special Christmas magic.
He makes a chimney and an open fireplace (big enough for his belly) appear whenever he needs them. He shoots down the chimney, enters the room, and gets to work. His other powers? He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!
Here’s a quick recap of some of our favorite posts on Fireplace Safety. For more information, please see our previous posts: Throw another log on…safely and It’s getting hot in here!
- Soften any hard edges and corners with blankets, taped-on padding or store-bought babyproofing gear
- Test drive your fireplace and figure out what gets too hot to touch. If necessary, consider a baby gate to protect the area
- Utilize a sturdy screen. Prevent sparks from flying into the room.
- Prevent creosote buildup. Wood and coal stoves, fireplaces, chimneys, and chimney connectors should be inspected yearly and cleaned as often as inspections suggest.

It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Most answers may look you dead in the face and you still will not see them Thanks for the info.
