Safety Smashup Lessons Learned part deux

Las week, I wrote about Adrienne’s adventures at the BlogHer Safety Smashup. Today I want to share some more stories and lessons learned from the mom behind Diaper Diaries.
As part of a recent Frugal Friday post, Diaper Diaries admitted to being a lover of garage sales. Find out what happened when she took her old UL-uncertified lamp out of the wall. Eek!
During her visit to the UL facility, DD got to try to put out a raging fire (she looks pretty sweet in that fireproof suit!) and learned a few lessons about grill safety. From reading her tips, I realized that I still have a few dangerous things going on in my backyard . Oy!
Make sure to visit her site to see the video of Diaper Diaries battling a fire.
Diaper Diaries shares four favorite safety tips for grilling including:
1. Keep grills at least 10 feet from any structures. I am totally guilty of having our grill too close to the shed. In California, we tend to leave our grills out all year, so it seems so convenient to have it near some rain-covering. Oops.
2. Have a spray bottle or fire extinguisher handy. I guess if you count our sprinkler system, we’re covered. But in terms of a legitimate fire extinguisher, I’m afraid that I fail this one, too.
3. Never use gasoline or kerosene to light a fire. Check! Ours is a gas grill and, though I’ve never actually ignited it myself, I understand how its done.
4. Check gas grill hoses for cracking, holes and leaks (regularly). This is a great tip, and we’ll do it next time we start ours up. As DD reminds us, do not attempt to repair things yourself.
Thanks to all the bloggers who shared their UL learnings with us. We hope to hear more from you about how you’re keeping safe at home.
